Why I Love Photographing People

Bay Head Photographer

I’ve always preferred photographing people over scenic or any other type of photography such as architecture. Even when photographing scenic or buildings, I always thought, “wow, what if the right person wearing the right thing was here right now? What a great photo this would be.” The right subject, to me, can make any image better.

When photographing people, often it’s not their favorite thing to do. It took me years to figure out what I enjoyed the most was getting the subjects comfortable. The psychology part of it is what made me love photographing people. From the conversation to the friendly banter at times, it always nice leaving a session where I felt I knew my client(s) my whole life.

Years ago, at the beginning of my career, I chose to photograph products instead of people because I was shy. My feeling is that the more people that I was around in my early 20s, the more I came across different types of people and found many of them interesting. As a result, I find most people fascinating, and I enjoy getting a glimpse of their life by asking questions.
